Each Graywolf rod begins as an idea shaped by water, craft, and time.

Every build is a collaboration between angler and maker — measured, balanced, and finished by hand. From custom cork grips to finely fitted hardware, every detail reflects decades of craft and obsession. Whether you fish for legacy or for the quiet rhythm of the stream, your rod is built to last a lifetime.

This gallery showcases a some rods that have come off my bench over the years.

Each build represents a different combination of taper, action, grip shape, and colors — all shaped with intention and a steady hand. Some were designed for small, tight Michigan streams, others for wide western rivers or warmwater hunting, but every one was built the same way: slowly, carefully, and with a focus on balance and feel. These rods reflect the evolution of my craft, the preferences of the anglers who fish them, and the countless hours spent refining what a good rod should be. What you see here is only a fraction of the work, but it captures the spirit of what I strive for in every build.

How to Order a Custom Rod

Ordering a custom Graywolf rod is simple. Reach out by phone or email, place a deposit, and we’ll begin shaping the specs for your build. You’ll start by choosing the blank, length, and line weight. From there, we’ll work through the details — reel seat style, insert material, grip shape, thread colors, hardware finish, and more. I offer slide‑band and locking seats in both up‑locking and down‑locking configurations for fresh or saltwater use. Every cork grip is turned in‑house from individual rings, so nearly any shape can be made. I also offer a wide selection of stripping guide options to match the look and function you’re after.

Not sure exactly how you want your rod built? You can be as involved as you like. Some clients specify only a few key features and leave the rest to my judgment; others come in with a clear vision for every detail. Either approach works. You’re welcome to browse photos on this site, Facebook, or Instagram for inspiration, or I can send suggestions and we can refine the build together.

Pricing

I charge $450 for Signature Grade, plus the cost of the blank — the same pricing I’ve held since 2008. Stream Grade adds $25, and Perfection Grade adds $50. These prices apply to glass and graphite rods up to 9 feet. Bamboo, spey, and specialty builds are quoted individually.

Build Grades

I use three primary build grades: Signature, Stream, and Perfection. All three include the same core features: premium reel seat options, flor‑grade cork, silk wraps, alignment dots, rod bag and a rod tube.

The only differences are:

  1. Stripping guide type

  2. Where silk tipping is applied

Signature Grade

Wrapped in silk with tipping at the winding check and ferrules. Stripping guide: Sic.

Stream Grade

Wrapped in silk with tipping at all guides, ferrules, and winding check. Stripping guide: Sic.

Perfection Grade

Wrapped in silk with tipping at all guides, ferrules, and winding check. Stripping guide: Agate ring set in nickel silver.
